We’re honored to share that Healing Seeds Foundation was recently featured in TownLift’s nonprofit spotlight! The article beautifully captures the heart of our mission: cultivating connection between people, plants, and the land that sustains us all.
Where Healing Meets the Earth
The piece explores how our co-founders, Dr. Babbie Stern and Lessing Stern, transformed their vision during the pandemic into a thriving 5-acre regenerative botanical medicine farm in Peoa. As Dr. Babbie shares in the article, “You can’t separate the health of the Earth from the health of her people.”
The article delves into several key aspects of our work:
Our Origins: How our deep roots in the Wasatch Mountains and a desire to create something meaningful during uncertain times led to the founding of Healing Seeds in 2020.
Growing Our Own Medicine: The importance of cultivating herbs and medicinal plants locally, especially after COVID disrupted international supply chains. Our farm now grows many plants that form the basis of Dr. Babbie’s clinical practice.
Alchemical Healing: The intersection of physical wellness and spiritual health, and how working with the land has deepened our understanding of the body-earth connection.
Building Sustainability: How our incredible team, including General Manager Kari Moe-Hoffman and board member Liza Salowey Story, are helping us create a financially and ecologically viable model to serve our mountain community.
What’s Growing: Research and development to market and sell botanical tinctures as dietary supplements, calendula salves, medicinal teas, herbal elixirs, and other locally sourced products.
The Path Forward
As we continue developing our educational programs in permaculture, organic farming, and herbal medicine, we’re grateful for the support of our community and for Rebecca Brenner’s thoughtful coverage of our work in the TownLift.
The foundation’s mission aligns with Summit County’s sustainability goals, and we’re committed to showing how small, regenerative farms can thrive while making healing accessible to all.
